Hilo, Hawaii
Reflections.
Decide & move forward. This week was all about tuning into my intuition and trusting my gut. I spent a lot of time reflecting in my favorite spot, a hammock outside my Airbnb, soaking in the quiet clarity that had been building throughout my visit. In that stillness, I finally found the courage to make decisions about things that had been taking up far too much space in my mind.
Hilo was my jam. This was hands down my favorite part of the island! I loved the artsy vibe and the charm of all the little boutiques (ya’ll know I love buying stuff I can’t get everywhere). Beyond the fun downtown scene, this area felt the most like a true tropical jungle - lush, vibrant, and alive with energy.
Snapshots & Stops.
Kula. Oh-em-gee the way I still crave their shaved ice - although Freya would disagree! I was on a Lilikoi kick, so add condensed milk and whip cream and it’s chefs kiss
A couple of lazy days. Lots of naps on the hammock, enjoying freshly picked fruit, and visiting baby sheep.
Akaka Falls. An easy and beautiful scenic walk to a gorgeous waterfall, where the pictures don’t do it any justice!
Our friendly Nene. Endemic to Hawaii, this friend of ours loved to hang outside our door everyday.
The Booch Bar. Local, hand-crafted kombucha on tap! They serve food too — but honestly, it's just okay.
Thurston Lava Tube & Volcano National Park. Freya and I hiked four miles, explored a lava tube, and hoped to see an eruption - but yet we failed again.
Ken’s House of Pancakes. Pancakes were yummy, and I loved how they have their own homemade syrups including…..you guessed it, Lilikoi syrup! Highly recommend this place for breakfast or brunch, they are affordable and give you large portion sizes. I lowkey wish I would’ve bought a mug from here - always trust your gut!
Kenichi Restaurant. While trying, and failing to find parking for a burger joint, I saw a long line outside of this restaurant and made a game time decision to try them out! To know me, is to know I love Ramen, and omg was this probably the best I’ve ever had! Great family style food as well.
Two Ladies Kitchen. Pro tip: order ahead and do pick-up - otherwise, you’ll be stuck in line for a while! We grabbed a delicious variety of mochi, including some flavors I didn’t even know existed.
