Reflections.
Divine inter-rat-vention. The title is an inside joke, but the real story here is I unexpectedly made a new friend, Noel. As a fellow mom with babies close in age, we had plenty to talk about - motherhood, family dynamics, generational cycles, and the journey of rediscovering ourselves. In many ways, these talks were not only affirming, but refreshing.
This connection was yet another reminder that when you show up as your true self, you attract the people meant for you, especially in a world that pushes to make us conform. It made me wonder: who or what have you overlooked while trying to be something you’re not?
Brewing upheaval. Having much of the noise around me stripped away, I was able to do a check-in with myself, a checks-and-balances. Getting a better understanding of what was currently working (or not) and why. I remember asking myself a few tough questions, and foregoing logic my intuition answered quickly and confidently. This was both liberating and unsettling because I could sense a shift was imminent.
Snapshots & Stops.
A chill day. No frills or adventures - just a laid-back day at ourAirbnb backyard. Our host’s lived at a gorgeous property with wildlife at our footsteps. Freya enjoyed feeding the chickens and roosters…..and trying to eat the grass.
Black Sands Beach. BI kinda had me going down a volcano rabbit hole, and I was lowkey obsessed with the lava fields and this beach. Fun fact: This beach’s sand is made from tiny particles of cooled lava that shattered upon contact with the ocean - essentially, when lava hits the water, it explodes.
Miranda’s Coffee Farm. A beautiful family owned coffee farm and cafe in between Ocean View and Naalehu. The best part is you can grab some coffee and then enjoy an El Salvadorian meal from the food truck on the same property.
Paradise Meadows. this little stretch of land had a farm-stand with local honey and macadamia nuts, a food truck called Ama’s Kitchen (the fish tacos - yum), some animal friends, and more.
South Rocky Point. Minutes from the Green Sands Beach is this popular cliff diving spot - though I didn’t get to see anyone take the plunge. This seemed to be a popular fishing spot with locals setting up camp for the day. Freya and I sat on the rocks, taking in the view of the coastline and the island stretching to the north.
Kae Lae Coffee. Super cute minimalist coffee shop in Naalehu! I’m a sucker for any coffee shop that makes their own lavender syrup.
Volcanoes National Park. Well I tried to see if we could catch Kilauea erupting - twas a failure. At least we got to check out Volcano House (a restaurant and hotel) and take a stroll around the park.
